Although every Deist practices Deism in their own unique ways, there are some common practices among them. Of course, just about all Deists spend time thinking about nature and philosophy. Most Deists will also study about God and humankind's relationship with God. For instance, many will take nature walks, just to see what there is to see and consider how nature fits in with their studies. Some will go to parks of various sorts to experience the variety in nature. Some Deists will study the world around them with the help of books. Many Deists prefer popular science books, but sometimes Deists will look for inspiration from holy books. Although they don't look for answers in holy books, they do study them for a better understanding of the world.
Not all Deists pray, but those that do will usually pray in a few common ways. Some just believe that finding the wonder and awe in our universe is a prayer in itself. Some Deists find that mediation is a good way for them to pray. Many Deists like to offer prayers of thanks, either out loud or silently. And there are those that combine all of these styles. Deists are all alike in believing that God is not going to grant us special favor, so there is no need to ask for it. Deists believe in helping themselves and others. Not pleading to God to make everything all right. I have included sections on Deist prayers to help share different ideas about Deist prayers.
The modern Deist community has expressed a need for more modern Deistic writings. Many Deists want books that include example prayers and ceremonies. There are some excellent books, which support Deistic thinking in the popular science field, but not books specifically dealing with how modern Deists can practice Deism. Currently, there are no books dealing with Deist prayer and ceremonies.
This web site will start building such endeavors. With the work of the Deist Alliance, I hope that we can help supply goals and thinking points for our fellow Deists. Keeping in mind there is no authority in Deism, other than the Deist them self, all the writing and exercises on this site are mere suggestions. Please do not think for a minute, that I am trying to force my ideas on to the Deist community. This web site is only putting forth suggestions, and I am asking for your advice. As many heads can do a better job of thinking than just one, I would like to invite any Deist who would like to send anything suitable to the web site to do so. I gladly give credit to authors of articles used here.
